Featured FO: Rasta Neckwarmer by h82purl

i really enjoy discovering the beautiful finished pieces knit from my patterns. today i'm sharing Rose's (h82purl on Ravelry) Rasta Neckwarmer.

by h82purl

her version is knit using Malabrigo Rasta in Piedras (the same colorway as the piece from Book 3). isn't her photography great? she really captured the beautiful essence of the yarn.

by h82purland great buttons! this makes me ready for springtime, sunshine and flowers :)

Featured FO: French Braid Cowl by amiijjang

like any ravelry designer (...assumption coming...) i like to stalk my pattern projects to see the wonderous FOs crafted by lovely knitters everywhere. it's always fantastic to discover a project that has quirky details or takes a unique spin on my designs.

© amiijjang like this gorgeous piece knit by amiijjang, a raveler that has countless beautiful projects in her portfolio. i'm so pleased with the way the madelinetosh merino yarn (colorway is glazed pecan) she chose to knit with plays among the pattern details without overwhelming the texture.

© amiijjang is this photography great or what? the perspective is interesting and i LOVE the button choice.

© amiijjang the finished piece is extremely lovely. it makes me want to rush out to purchase some mad-tosh in order to make one just like it!

knit the look: color blocking

unless you live under a rock (i assume you don't if you're reading my blog) then you've likely seen this infamous Mondrain dress by YSL...

Sylvie Fleury, Untitled (Mondrian Dress), 1993

and if you pay any attention to fashion,  you might have noticed that this trend has been sweeping the runways for some time now...from color-banded cocktail dresses to accessories (and amazing shoes) and even the odd poncho.

Stefan Gosatti/Getty ImagesThe color blocking trend has also been popping up on Ravelry. Here are a few of my favorite color blocking designs...

the stripe study shawl by Veera Välimäki Rain Knitwear Designs. This is just lovely and simple.

the bergen street cardigan by alexis winslow of knit darling. love the shaping worked into a band of color on the shoulders.

by mollie1the modish cowl by stephen west. super simple project with great results - see my modish cowl here.

by westknitscolor blocking is one of stephen's specialties and his innate ability to combine and play with color shines through on many of his designs, including birdwing, flamboyan, and honegart.

i'll leave you with one of my own designs incorporating color blocking - the scalloped shawl. ravelers are knitting this in such brilliant color combinations!

Malabrigo March Modish Cowl

My Malabrigo March Madness knitting is off to a great start. By March 2nd, I'd already finished my first project - a Modish Cowl, which is a lovely color block stitch cowl design from Stephen West.

My version is knit in Malabrigo Twist - colors Pearl Ten and Manzanilla Olive. I just love the contrast from the pops of acid green.

I made a few slight modifications:

  • shortened the final MC section by about half
  • completed 8 ridges in CC edging
  • switched MC & CC for opposite edging and completed 8 ridges
  • seamed with a quick single crochet edge to match the rest of the seams
